¡BIENVENIDOS a la Clase de Español!

Middle School

In middle school we offer Spanish 1A, 1B and 2 in sixth, seventh and eighth grades. All are high school credit classes, and must be passed with a grade of 80% or above to proceed to the next class. If you wish to contact the teacher, we are always available to parents from 3:30 – 4:00 p.m. every day, please call the office or send an email to set up an appointment.

Class procedures:

Please bring your notebook/binder, two pens or pencils, one red pen, your textbook, workbook and any handout that you previously received, to each class period. None of the above materials are routinely furnished. You will be charged for a lost or damaged textbook. Individual student matters such as make-up work, absences, grades, etc. must be taken up during resource time. Class will not be interrupted.

Homework is due at the beginning of class. Homework that is last minute will not be accepted.

Our department website is major means of communication. Please become familiar with it right away. Visit PCKS web site at http://www.ckcs.net/ , click on the “Staff” tab and select the Spanish teachers. We will also list homework on the Middle School Homework Calendar. You can find it on the middle school homepage and our page under the tab Middle School Homework and Grading.

If you are ill or have any other type of unanticipated absence, it is your responsibility to find out what you missed by checking the Google Calendar. Please check the web site BEFORE coming to us asking what you missed.

Late Work Policy:

·      1 class late = 80% credit

·      2 classes late = 50% credit

·      3 classes late = 0% credit

If you consistently turn in homework late, an individual action plan will be made. This plan may include a parent conference, lunch detention, receiving zeros for all late work or being removed from Spanish.

For excused absences, you have until the next class period to turn in the work for full credit. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what work you missed. If you have an excused absence on a day we took a test, you have two study halls to make it up. You may not make up tests during lunch.

Your grade will be comprised of the following:

·       30 % - Homework (Homework turned in late will only receive partial credit)

·       30% - Communication (Presentational, Interpretive & Interpersonal modes ie. skits, role-play, dialogues, writings)

·       40% - Assessments (speaking assessments, projects, quizzes, tests)

The Spanish teachers will update grades in Infinite Campus often.

During class you are not evaluated on whether what you say is correct or not, but rather your willingness to communicate in another language. A large component of students’ grade will be reflected in the communication column of Infinite Campus: interpersonal, interpretive and presentational modes of communication.

In Spanish, you can expect to have 15 minutes of homework per evening. However, when we assess the standards with special projects or assessments, these may take longer and students will be given at least a week to complete such assignments.

We will follow the PCK behavior policy: level 1 teacher/student; level 2 teacher/student/parent; and level 3 administrator/teacher/parent/student.
